Every year, cities all over the Philippines gather around and celebrate with beautiful colors all over the city and smiles on the locals’ faces. They call it Fiesta, a grand celebration of each city’s feast of their patron saint.

Most highly urbanized cities prepare something extravagant to celebrate a very bountiful year. In this manner, it would attract more visitors, tourists and foreigners alike, to celebrate with the locals. Various activities are being prepared from their local government to every company, organization or group that gives grace to a city’s merry celebration.

In Cagayan De Oro City, a roster of exciting activities are in store for everyone. This year’s fiesta theme is “Higalaay” which means “friendship”. It aims to establish more friendships and go beyond self-interests. Their initial activity will be a Fashion Summit, which will feature local fashion designers to exhibit their latest collections under a specific theme. This three day event will also feature works of other top designers in Mindanao, specifically Davao, General Santos, Iligan, Ozamis, Zamboanga City, Cotabato and Surigao. The Mindanao Fashion Summit will be on August 8-10 in Limeketkai, Cagayan De Oro.

What’s a fiesta celebration without food? Cagayan De Oro’s well-known culinary show “Kumbira” is set to make another display showcasing the best and latest culinary creations in the region. The said event will be a three-day activity which consists of food exhibits, seminars and competitions participated by various hotels, restaurants, resorts, students and even professional chefs from all over the contry. It will be held on August 13-15 in the Limeketkai Mall Atrium.

Of course, a city fiesta will not be complete without street dancing. This merrymaking and explosion of colors and dances is a tradition of every fiestas in the country. The City Tourism Council of Cagayan De Oro City promises a parade of fun, colors and music on August 24th.

The actual feast of the city’s patron saint, St. Augustine will be on the 28th of August.
